Observer Food Monthly Awards 2019 – highlights video
The biggest event in the food calendar, the Observer Food Monthly Awards celebrate Britain’s leading chefs, restaurateurs, food producers and much more. This year’s awards took place on 17 October at the Freemasons Hall in London, hosted by Nigella Lawson and Jay Rayner. Jamie Oliver collected the award for Best Food Personality, Claudia Roden took home Lifetime Achievement and Refugee Community Kitchen won Outstanding Achievement.

      Distilled water taste like water. Distilled water is dead water, it needs to be suncharged.

    Ok why pork mince. Turkey is much cheaper. Tinned tomatoes rather than puray more vitamins. Why not super cheap cheddar from Lidl or aldi for the topping? Why not add frozen veg to bulk it out add vitamins?

    Strange anecdote. You spend months on an extremely low budget, “literally counting every penny”, can’t buy something when the price goes up by just 6p…but you wait until you’re absolutely desperate & have nothing to feed your son- “not even a stock cube” in the house -before you think to search the house for odd coins? And when you do search, you find enough money to buy one of everything in the supermarket value range? Really?

      It’s just a ground up meat. Beef, pork, chicken, and turkey all come in minced or ground forms in most supermarkets.

    Everything this woman does is just pretty rubbish to be honest. The tinned potatoes are an expensive option. Her meals lack a MASSIVE AMOUNT of nutritional value. If you followed her recipe's you'd end up pretty unhealthy after a year or two. And her curry looked awful and I can't imagine it tasted much better.

    Just trying them now Jack as universal credits are cut by £80 per months in the UK which was a Covid payment which has now stopped. To a lot of people £80 pounds is not a lot but as you know it is. So I let.you know how they came out 😊

    I miss UK supermarket budget shopping. Here, in Ukraine, good luck on finding a jam for 0.25 quid. The cheapest I could find is 0.75. Canned food is VERY PRICY. Root veges are cheap though but I miss canned beans from the bottom shelves.
